Acne's a bitch.
And having oily skin doesn't really help avoiding it. But all is not lost. Life doesn't have to be too dramatic and YES, there is a way, actually several SIMPLE ways, to once and for all end your insecurities about those little annoying pimples.
There's a reason this is # 1. No excuses -- wash your face morning, noon and night. If it's too tight to do it in the middle of the day, AT LEAST, morning and night. And no settling for makeup removers or wipes either. WASH IT. Religiously. Clean all the oil you've accumulated overnight. Wash away all the sweat, makeup and more oil your super active glands have worked so hard for during the day. Prevention is key and (regular, consistent) cleansing is the way.
2. Drink Lots of Water
I know. I try too. But trying is better than giving up pre-race. Don't let the thought that it seems a lot take over and allow yourself to prematurely give in and reach for that diet soda or iced tea.
It actually isn't that bad. When you say 8 glasses of water, we think of 8 tall glasses of water like we see in commercials. It's actually 8 servings of 8 ounces (or 1 cup, like the measuring cup) of water. Spread that out throughout the day from the time you wake up until right before you go to bed, it isn't much. Say you wake up at 6 and go to bed around 10, that's a cup every other hour or half a cup per hour. Not too bad.
3. STOP Touching Your Face
To this day, I still try to break this habit. Good thing is, awareness is key. The moment I catch myself with my hands picking on something on my cheek or propping my chin, I immediately take it off. Also make sure you regularly wash your hands.
4. Sweat It Out
It keeps the blood flowing and releases toxins. It doesn't have to be a hardcore workout. Just enough for you to get a good sweat going. Take a shower after.
Drink it. Eat it. Slather it on your body. However you can take it, go for it. From the first time I heard about green tea (I think way back in college), I was hooked. I consumed it internally and topically. Green tea everything. And when I learned about Matcha (powdered green tea), my old love had been reignited. So much so that I created a another skincare care line, Matcha Skin, the first and only collection that has Matcha as the main ingredient in every single product. I love this tea in all its forms. I drink it everyday, bake with it, wash my face and body with it, use it as a face mask, use green tea fragrances and lotions. It's the ultimate anti-oxidant. Good for your overall health and does wonders for your skin.
The holy grail of banishing acne. Period. It acts as an effective antiseptic that disinfects skin and has comedolytic and keratolytic properties that dries out problem areas while promoting faster shedding and exfoliation of dead skin cells, dirt, and oil that clogs pores. Don't waste time and money with any of the crap you see on TV and infomercials. Grab some sulfur soap to get you started.
