End of Summer Skin Renewal

We're almost at the end of summer (first rain today in months!) and while we can still see our tan lines as we get undressed, you have to admit the fresh glow of that tan is starting to fade. Soon we'll go through the stage we usually don't look forward to - that phase of peeling and uneven skin colors. Much like a snake, we'll shed off that gorgeous dewy sun kissed complexion to make way for fresh new skin.

That process though need not be unpleasant. To healthily work with the skin transformation, there are tricks you can do to make way for the fresh new layer and avoid looking like a giraffe in the process. Today I'll share with you 2 skincare recipes. The best part of it is they're both all natural, contains amazing nutrients for your skin and hardly costs a penny. So let's begin!

1. Exfoliating Lemon Body Scrub


Juice of 2 ripe lemons

3 tablespoons of honey

3 tablespoons of olive oil

1 cup of sugar


Mix all ingredients in a bowl and blend them well. Get in the shower and get wet. Scoop the mixture and gently rub all over. Make sure you get your elbows, knees and heels. If you're able, leave the mixture on your body for 5 minutes (this is a good time to practice meditation). Rinse with soap and water. You're done! You'll smell fresh as a lemon and when you feel you skin, you'll feel as if you've applied some moisturizer. That's the olive oil and honey working their magic!

2. Nourishing Papaya Facial Mask

Papayas are currently in season so run to your nearest grocery and if you're lucky, they still have them in the produce department. Get 1, a very ripe one, that will be enough for this recipe.


1 (very) ripe papaya (small to medium size will do)

3 tablespoons of honey

1 vitamin E capsule

1 tablespoon of olive oil


Cut the papaya in half and discard all the black seeds and web looking fibers around it. Scoop the papaya meat into a bowl and discard the fruits's outer skin. Mash the papaya really well, mix in the honey and olive oil and pierce the vitamin E capsule and squeeze into the mixture. Blend well. Set aside. Wash your face with soap and water and pat dry. Put some water in a bowl and put it in the microwave for 1 minute. Submerge a clean hand towel into the warm water and wring it out. Lay down and place the warm (not hot!) towel on your face. Set alarm for 2 minutes. Take the towel off and get your papaya mixture. Apply generously all over your face (avoid getting too close to your eyes) and lay down again. You might want to put a towel under your head and shoulders in case some of the mixture slips off your face. Set alarm for 15 minutes. Rinse off with soap and water. You'll almost immediately see a difference. Your face will appear clearer and rested.
